We continue our meet the team series with the introduction of the newest member of our team, Ship Agent Erik Götheus.
Tell shortly of your background?
After finishing high school I directly started working for different shipping companies earning experience in several types of ships, including roro, ropax, passenger and bulk vessels.
In 1999 I begun studying at Kalmar Maritime Academy and graduated as Master Mariner in 2002. After completing my studies, I worked on roro, ropax and archipelago ships. My oldest daughter was born in 2010 and I decided to leave the life at sea. I have since been working for different shipping companies in HR and ISM-related positions.
Describe your daily work at NSG?
I have a lot of different tasks regarding ship calls. The most important is to keep all parties well informed as this is the key for smooth port call. I also assist vessels in any requirements they might have, such as in crew changes, finding spares or other equipment.
How have the first couple of months with the company been?
It has been incredible fun to work with ”real” shipping again after some years in shore based positions. A big part of the shipping industry is very similar to what I was used to but there are a lot of things we usually take for granted like internet and stable communications that the shipping industry I was used to did not have.
I have truly enjoyed working for NSG these last months. I find the work duties to fit my personality and I like the sometimes challenging requests from the ships crew.
What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time I like to spend time with my children in the country side. When not spending time with my family, golf is the one thing I like to do.
