Petter Alfredsson has worked as a ship agent at NSG from the beginning of the year. We asked Petter a couple of questions about his job and what does he do on his spare time.
Tell shortly about your background?
In high school, I studied economics and entrepreneurship, where I also ran a young entrepreneurship company selling self-inflatable lifebuoys. Before joining NSG, I have worked as a deliveryman and salesperson.
Describe your daily work at NSG?
My daily tasks include communicating with the different ports and vessels as well as informing and updating all parties concerned. The bigger the vessel, the more likely there is to visit onboard to handle practical issues and paperwork.
The daily work also includes assisting vessels in different ways depending on the situation. Given this, the daily tasks can vary significantly which is one of the pros that come with this type of work. This can include services such as crew changes, finding spares or other equipment, which leads to a lot of problem-solving.
What do you like the most in your work?
The main thing that I like about this type of work is the variation from day to day. There is a lot of problem-solving and it is interesting to begin figuring out every new assignment, especially the ones I have never come across before.
It is also very interesting to talk to the crew from other parts of the world about their voyages and everyday life. Conversations with the crew and captains are always enjoyable.
What do you do in your spare time?
I enjoy spending time outdoors. In the wintertime, I love to go skiing, both downhill and cross country skiing. In the spring and autumn, I do a lot of fishing both in Sweden and Norway.During the summertime, I enjoy travelling and exploring different places, always looking forward to a good and challenging hike.
I am also interested in exercise and love to challenge myself, last winter I completed Vasaloppet, an annual cross country ski race spanning 90 kilometres.
During my downtime, I appreciate being at home and spending time with my friends and family.”
